USING ACCOUNTING SOFTWARE

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR SOFTWARE.

Good software should make your job easier, save you time, provide you with useful information, and allow you to do more with less personnel.

Software can range from a do-it-yourself spreadsheet to the purchase or licensing of a developed software package.

Usually, with any software you will have two expenses.  The first expense is the money to purchase  the software and the second expense is the time and money to learn how to get the most out of your purchase.

We all know someone who purchased a computer, ($500 to $1,500) but they didn't learn how to use it or only use it to play solitaire.

There are many businesses that purchase software with many useful tools, but because time and money have NOT been invested, the software only provides little benefit.

ARE ACCOUNTING AND COSTING THE SAME?

It is important to understand that Costing and Accounting are NOT THE SAME!!   Remember you need a costing method FIRST, which provides information for you and your staff to make informed decisions, and an accounting method SECOND, which provides you the results of those decisions.

Your first step is to purchase software that tracks your expenses by Motor Vehicle.  Your second step is to setup your software's general ledger  so that your expenses are in a format that is easy for you and your staff to understand.
