CREATING YOUR GENERAL LEDGER ACCOUNTS

CREATING A GENERAL LEDGER THAT YOU
CAN UNDERSTAND.

The key to making informed decisions is to obtain good information in a format that owners, managers, and staff can understand.

Most general ledger accounts are listed in numeric or alphabetical order.  This makes it difficult to understand your accounting numbers.

We recommend using the Truckerscost’s Basic Chart of Accounts when creating your general ledger.

This chart of accounts is designed to be consistent with the Truckerscost costing method.    That is, the expense accounts are arranged by cost category rather than the standard alphabetical or numeric order.  This process keeps your expenses grouped by category.

WHAT ACCOUNTING NUMBERS DO YOU
NEED WHEN USING THE TRUCKERSCOST
COSTING METHOD?

When you utilize the Truckerscost costing method your accounting numbers for the categories Other Truck & Driver Expenses and Overhead are required to determine your cost.  The other categories can be calculated without your monthly accounting numbers.

CAN I MODIFY MY CURRENT GENERAL
LEDGER ACCOUNTS?

Depending on your software you may be able to edit, modify, and merge your existing accounts.  We STRONGLY recommend contacting your software provider’s technical support for proper instructions.
